Dear 2019 Whittier Area Classic Car Show Participant,
On behalf of the Whittier Area Classic Car Show Committee, I would like to thank you for your participation in our 8th annual event, and invite you to the 9th Annual Whittier Area Classic Car Show which takes place on Saturday, February 22, 2020, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at Whittier Area Community Church.
This past February was our largest show to date with just over 500 show cars spanning the years 1914-1976, amazing display cars and nostalgia dragsters, and thousands of spectators. In case you didn’t get to walk the entire show, we had a wide variety of sponsor and vendor booths, high quality t-shirts, foot-stomping live music, fun activities for the kids, nine food trucks, hundreds of raffle prizes, an exciting opportunity drawing, and distinctive trophies in over 20 categories. This year is going to be fun too, so we hope you can join us!
Not only do we strive to create a fun day for the car show participants and spectators, but we also fund two very important causes from our car show proceeds: the Whittier Union High School District’s Keith Boyer Memorial Scholarship Fund and Love Whittier. In 2018 and 2019, we donated over $50,000 to these causes. In 2017, we also donated $19,000 to the Whittier Police Officers Association in honor of Whittier Police Officer Keith Boyer who was tragically killed that year. The Keith Boyer Memorial Scholarship Fund was created in 2018 and is available to WUHSD high school seniors who are pursuing advanced education in Music, Criminal Justice, and Auto Tech. Love Whittier is a community-wide program of 1,300 volunteers who come together to complete over 100 projects in the Whittier area over the course of one weekend. (Check out LoveWhittier.org for more details.) As in 2018 and 2019, our plan is to donate all t-shirt and raffle proceeds to the Keith Boyer Memorial Scholarship Fund, and the balance of the show’s proceeds to Love Whittier. Thank you for helping us support our community!
As you can imagine, this car show takes tremendous effort to coordinate, but it would not be possible without the help of our sponsors. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Jim Maher of Good Vibrations Motorsports and DragParts.com for his continued support. Also, a big “Thank You” goes out to Matt, Sue, and Jeff Langan of Precision Metal Crafts who will once again produce our eye-catching trophies. We are grateful that Whittier Area Community Church allows us to host the show on their beautiful campus year after year. The creative crew at Stith Printing has once again produced our artwork and will print our t-shirts. We appreciate all our sponsors and their continued support.
The Whittier Area Community Church campus is expanding and construction of a new building is underway, which is an exciting development for the church but also means changes for our show. First, we will not have the lawn area, which in past years has been used as a parking area for show cars and the vendor booth area. Also, we’ve lost portions of the parking lot to contractor trailers and storage containers, which further impacts the number of parking spots for show cars. As a result, the 503 cars we had in 2019 will be reduced to approximately 300 in 2020. Because of these reductions, we’re asking you to please register early to guarantee your spot. You can register by mail using the enclosed form or online via our website.
Despite these changes at our venue, our plan is to have the 9th Annual Whittier Area Classic Car Show look very much like our previous shows. Three important things to note: 1) as in previous years, all show cars will have a designated parking space, so there’s no need to arrive early (you’ll receive your confirmation packet and parking space number in the mail the week before the show); 2) if you would like to park next to friends, we need to know this in advance – for mail-in registrations, mail all completed registration forms together in one envelop, and for online registrations, each person can register individually, but be sure to list all friends’ names (first & last) in the comment field; and 3) register ASAP since we anticipate selling out very early this year.
For more information, please visit our website at WhittierAreaClassicCarShow.com or check us out on Facebook. Again, thank you for coming out last February and giving us your support. We look forward to seeing you in 2020.
Tod Linklater, Chairman of the Whittier Area Classic Car Show
